Please note, we rarely publish work over 4,000 words and we do not publish excerpts, translations, dramas, screenplays, and scholarly essays. We accept simultaneous submissions. For other questions, please read our FAQs.

Several times per year we offer no-cost submissions. Please check back for those opportunities, or make a request through our email. We are a non-profit journal operating under the umbrella of the University of Memphis. All monies collected from Submittable fees are used to print the magazine and support the students in our MFA program.

Prose submitted will be considered for the Spring 2026 print edition of the Pinch as well in our sister publication PJO

We will consider up to THREE flash fiction pieces as one submission (flash should be fewer than 1000 words each). Please ensure that the title of your submission is the title(s) of your stories. We rarely publish excerpts and do not publish translations, scripts, or plays. 

We strive to respond quickly, however due to the academic calendar we might take up to six months to respond. If you have not heard from us within 180 days, please send an email inquiry about your submission to editor@pinchjournal.com

Submission Checklist

  • We rarely publish work that is more than 4,000 words. 
  • If the form allows, please use conventional manuscript formatting (double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, pages numbered)
  • The title of the work is the same as the submission title
  • Simultaneous submissions are okay
  • Please do no submit additional stories before you hear back from us
